If Its Good Enough For Pixar...

Pixars Renderman software is now available as a free download for non commercial work.

To quote their website "RenderMan is now free for all non-commercial purposes, including evaluations, education, research, and personal projects. The non-commercial version of RenderMan is fully functional without watermark or limitation."

Anyone with any interest in CAD, 3D Modelling and so on will no doubt have seen at least one Pixar movie and looked on with a jealous gleam in their eye. Obviously you need skills and talent to create something like Up or Monsters Inc. but having the best tools available can help a lot!

Now I'll be honest here, I've never used their software before and I'm not that good at 3D modelling and rendering, but I'll certainly be downloading a copy and giving it a try.

Check out the Renderman site for more info.

Google Earth Pro is Free…

Google-earth-pro-logo

This is old news by now, I don’t know how I missed out on posting it, but Google Earth Pro is now available for free.  Yes that’s right, FREE!

What does Google Earth Pro do that the standard version doesn't? Well amongst other things, you can do the following:

  • Utilize data layers to locate your target demographic
  • Compute distances and areas using measurement tools
  • Use Movie Maker to produce media collateral
  • Print high-resolution images for presentations and reports
  • Import large vector image files to quickly map GIS data
  • Map addresses with the Spreadsheet Importer

Download it from here.

Eclipse 2015

Well what a disappointment today's eclipse was.  Heavy fog killed any hopes of catching a glimpse of the event unfortunately.

This is what it looked like where I was!

I'm sure the sun is in there somewhere...

Bottom Gear…

I don’t work on one of the most popular TV shows in the world, so I live in the real world.

If I called someone 'lazy Irish c***' in the workplace, I would expect severe repercussions. If I then followed it up and hit that person, I would expect to be sacked.

It shouldn’t matter who you are or what your job is. There is an expectation that you should be allowed to do your job free from intimidation, bullying and physical violence.

Oh and I like steak as much as the next guy, but it most certainly is not worth losing my job over!
